a little bit of this & a little bit of that

... October ...

Well the month began with river trips, vomit, a broken washer, more vomit (usually dried to the kids sheets for a lovely early morning surprise) 10 loads of laundry (that I couldn’t wash thanks to the no washer) which led to hand washing clothes – buying de-worming pills (had to stop the vomit) lots of water, pedialite and chicken and rice soup (the kids won’t eat noodles), hiking, a fixed washer (which was a lie since it ended up flooding the living room with water….) lots of visitors from the community, playing in the river and a visit from the Tieman family J

One can only hope that this last week of October will end with just as much pizazz (but hopefully no vomit)

Our first trip up the river, though, was quite a success. The kids had such an enjoyable time – they love water, so really we couldn’t go wrong. Adam and I had fun too, although keeping the kids in the boat was a bigger chore than anticipated J We were able to get to Shakai – even though the river was down quite a bit – and we met up with Esteban and his wife Hermocina and their children. Their son Carlos goes to school here in Zamora (he is 13 and living in an apartment by himself!!) We are hoping to start a Bible study with him and his friends.

We were able to see the land that we are going to build a house on – gave them the chain saw to cut the wood for the house and then we were on our way back!! It was a quick trip. But it was really good to get out there and to see the community (even though we traveled 3 hours in the car and 6 in a boat!!) We stayed the night at some cabins owned by a couple here in Zamora and headed home in the morning.

It’s definitely been a crazy month – full of its own challenges – but we have made it through (hopefully with smiles on our faces) and we have had some really great experiences and have begun some great and hopefully lifelong friendships.

Here are detailed pictures of the trip...
