This week we began building a canoe with the leftover wood we had from our houses…. Does Adam know how to build a canoe you ask!? No he surely does not but so far it at least looks like one… will it float… its anyone’s guess since they are making it with a saw, machete’s and nails…. Either way it has been a fun break from class time and the guys have really enjoyed ‘learning’ how to make one J
Classes are going well and the guys haven’t missed a beat since Beltran left. We have been teaching them about Animism, Cultural Contextualization (for when they get to the community) trying to give them examples of circumstances and things they might encounter. Adam has also been teaching them some Spiritual Disciplines such as: meditation, Prayer, Studying and Fasting. They are reading through the book of Genesis and they have had a lot of really good questions and in turn we have had lots of really good discussions. It is always great to know that they are listening, interested and participating!!
Guess what!? Adam’s books came!!! We came into town especially to get them on Saturday and they are all here and in good condition – thanks so much for your prayers!! Of course now we have to read them…. Catching up on his reading is gonna be fun so you can keep that in your prayers J
We only had to go to the hospital once this week for Sophia – poor thing has some type of infection/rash/fungus on her bottom… but we have bought some medicine and it seems to be helping so that’s a relief.
We came into town today to pick up a national guy named Caleb (he is from the mountains) and he will help us teach/train for the next couple of weeks – we are really excited to have his help and to get to watch him teach the guys. Since we were coming into town to get him we decided to come home and wash clothes… we thought we had already killed and disposed of the rats who were living in the washer last week but apparently a couple decided to die in the washer and they had the courtesy to allow maggots to live in them as well so Adam got to clean up that mess and then we washed the clothes… maybe they are clean?
All in all it has been a good week and we look forward to see what this week will bring J
Water Buffalo!! We had the privilege of seeing these fine specimens one day on our way back to our river home :)
the canoe --- it is a work in progress but looking good!!
I forgot to mention the torrential rain storm we had at the first of the week .... it poured and poured and the wind blew and blew and it thundered so loud and the lightening flashed so bright and the kids slept right through it all! (of course they weren't sleeping before it... I guess it was to quiet, haha) Here are Sophia and I after the long night - we put up plastic and an old air mattress to try and block the wind and rain... its about 5am in this pick but its still so dark its like night!
working on the canoe some more
little Samuel realizing he has hands :)
