The rising of the water definitely complicated our lives just a little bit. To be quite honest I was really dreading the weekend, not knowing how it was all going to pan out – but a crazy thing happened – everything went even better than expected!!
Since we have no beach we were stranded in our house with no where to go (unless we wanted to grab our machetes and hack a pathway into the jungle … not really a family hiking adventure I wanted to partake of J) This was further complicated by the fact that without a beach we also had no where to have the classes except in our house (so that means even less room for Sophia to play in!) Also, it meant that I was going to have to wade through bushes and grass and whatnot to get into the water and take a bath --- so not doing that! I told Adam that I had no intention of getting in the water and he just didn’t get it… he said, “you always got in the water before with no problem” I tried to explain that stepping into water from the sand far away from brush and snakes and anything else that could be lurking in there was way different … he still didn’t understand and I said that was fine, I still wasn’t gonna do it – however with the hot sun shining I eventually caved and took the plunge (I made Adam stand right next to me though) but I got in anyways J I still have all my limbs and wasn’t bit or attacked by any creatures so that’s nice J
The other concern I had was that with the rising of the water the mosquitos have become much worse – with Samuel waking up every two hours I was afraid that we would both be very bit up and didn’t know what to do about it. Adam found another mosquito net and hung it over the rocking chair so we wouldn’t be attacked but that had issues because you have to try and pick up the mosquito net while holding a half sleeping baby and it just wasn’t a good plan… so Adam bought a whole bunch of mosquito spray and sprayed it all around the house and then he said he would just bring Samuel to me in our bed (because mosquitos don’t bother him) that ended up working much better especially since Samuel started sleeping all night!! The last three nights he has only woken up once! What a relief and a miracle!!!
So yesterday afternoon it was very hot and so we decided to take our baths early and wash some dishes – we put Samuel in his car seat and sat him in the boat (he immediately fell asleep…) and then I bathed Sophia while Adam washed some dishes – then we would switch so we could have a break from holding the wiggle worm J So Sophia and I are just playing in the water when all of a sudden I hear a splash near the bushes and Adam say, “oh no” and I immediately freaked out – I look up to see – what I thought was a snake heading right for us – I jumped behind Adam and said, “what is it?” At the same time the ‘snake’ ran smack into Adam and kept going down river!? Adam said, “That was a fish – what kind of devil fish swims on the surface of the water and comes right toward you??” Ha. I certainly didn’t know – we asked the guys later and they said it’s called a pez loco (crazy fish) obviously…. But it didn’t harm us --- thank goodness, however I am not super excited about getting back in the water (it is really hard to bathe while keeping an eye out for ‘crazy fish’ and anacondas in the bushes) J
The guys are doing really well – they are really enjoying the house church classes and we are having fun playing games in the afternoon. We have another couple, Uzaias and Sabina, who are coming to help this next week and we are really excited to see them and have their help – plus when we woke up this morning the water had started to go down!! It was just a couple of inches but I am hopeful that it will continue to go down and soon we will have our beach back!
washing dishes (in the boat because I didn't want to get in the water... my leg did fall asleep though)
if you look in the water you can see the roof of our shelter floating down river :)
Samuel loves sleeping in the hammock!
I dared to step out of the boat and do the dishes that way ... easier but scarier :)
This was before the 'crazy fish'
Alias and Sophia - so precious! (Sophia of course, haha)
The guys learning how to play domino's :)
