This past Friday was our one month anniversary here in San Juan!! It is so hard to believe that we have been here for that long, however, even though it has been a month we have had lots of FIRSTS this week…

1.   We had our FIRST earthquake … during the middle of class (which is a great interruption) I thought someone had snuck up behind me to shake my chair but no one was there … it was the earthquake … who knew!?

2.    We had our FIRST thunderstorm (complete with lightening and thunder) which apparently never happens … lucky us! But I will tell you that it was like a river in the streets because it rained so hard so quickly … apparently in the actualrainy season the water floods the entire street and you cant walk in it because you are knee deep in water … fortunately we wont be here then …

3.    We had our FIRST piñata at our friend Loris birthday party … it was a chicken piñata … pretty funny actually … nothing like beating the tar out of a cute yellow chicken!! It was sorta hard though … I wont lie, which is a bit embarrassing but it took all of us to destroy the thing!!

4.     We had our FIRST ride in a tuk tuk, which is the equivalent of an auto in India. However, these little suckers have doors and tented windows… pretty high tech – but the ride on cobblestone is a bit bumpy …

5.   We had our FIRST end of the month … which is a weird thing to say I know, but apparently at the end of the month everyone gets paid and goes NUTS. By nuts I mean the entire Guatemalan population was in our little town shopping, eating and drinking … it was crazy – apparently when that happens the WiFi doesnt work because everyone is trying to use the internet… hmmm

All in all it has been a good and eventful week once again.  Adam and I had different teachers today in class. I love mine – however, Adam is having a few issues with his and just with the school. Please keep him in your prayers as the school and the board try to figure out what to do with him.  I have a feeling this week will be a pretty hard time of transition.  The bathroom project is coming along and hopefully will be finished by the end of the week! Thank goodness we have two bathrooms because we had no idea it would take this long!

Thanks for all of your prayers and constant support!

Love,

Adam and Jess

Looks and sounds like you guys are having a great time! Yay for surviving your first earthquake!! And random question: did the pinata have candy in it? Hope everything goes well with Adam and his teacher. Keep us posted!

Love you! Miss you guys!
