on the boat to the island

our house! adam and i were in the bottom room
and the girls stayed above us...
the bathroom is behind those stairs...
much fun we were going to have...
this is where we were dropped off....
So last weekend it was brought to our attention that for the entire weekend in San Juan it was going to be absolutely nuts (because it was the first week of Semana Santa, which is Holy Week) They celebrate for a month before Easter!! They have giant parades all day on Sunday as well as all kinds of other things…plus on Friday night our family was having a huge party at our house (you know its big when they start cooking a week in advance!!) And Saturday they were having a wedding. So instead of being prisoners in our own home we decided to go to the beach, lol!! Why not right?! There is a beach really close to us (about a 2 hour drive) called Monterrico so we quickly started looking up hotels and transportation, etc. Adam found this really cool hotel on an island just off of Monterrico called Islet de Gaia. The pictures on the internet were beautiful and so we called and they had room for us! We were so excited because it was real cheap and we were going to get to take a boat out to our own private island, how cool is that!!! I could tell story after story about the weekend, but I thought it would be more fun to write a top ten list and let you piece together our visit!! Enjoy!
1. REALLY HOT
2. Mosquito nets (that attacked you most of the night)
3. Broken fan
4. No A/C
5. Same Menu everyday with 5 options only
6. One bathroom for 5...OUTSIDE
7. REaLLy scary waves … they were at least 10 foot and the current was crazy strong!
8. We got there by boat...by boat I mean it was carved out of a decaying tree 20 years ago and had a 5-horse motor attached along with some chickens
9. We got there by lake...however the ocean was on the other side of our 'island'
10. Our island was a 'peninsula' and we were the only 5 on it...seriously - it was like Jesus had come and forgot us...
It was definitely an adventure…we laughed, a lot!! But, we had fun and survived and are back with the chickens and fireworks :)
Love you guys!!
